Eligibility Criteria, Scoring Criteria, and Evaluation Process for the Co-Digestion Grant Program
The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) will administer the Co-Digestion Grant Program. It will provide funding to build new and expanded food waste co-digestion projects at existing publicly owned wastewater treatment plants to increase anaerobic digestion infrastructure capacity. These investments will provide funding for organic waste receiving stations, biogas treatment equipment, biosolids dewatering infrastructure, and more. Eligible applicants include local governments, cities, counties, regional or local sanitation and solid waste agencies, and Joint Powers Authorities.
The Circular Economy Package allocates $10 million to CalRecycle's Co-Digestion Grant Program for FY 2021‒22 and $10 million for FY 2022‒23, minus five percent for administration costs. The application due date is April 2022. For more information, click here.

2021 Brings More Renewable Natural Gas into SoCalGas Pipelines
Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) today announced that 14 billion cubic feet of renewable natural gas (RNG) produced from organic waste was distributed via SoCalGas' pipeline system in 2021, the equivalent to removing 166,896 cars from the road annually. Nine RNG projects are connected to SoCalGas' system. One such project is Anaergia's anaerobic digestion facility located in Rialto, California, which converts 300,000 tons per year of organic waste and biosolids into fertilizer and 985,000 metric million British thermal units of RNG.
