Employee Affinity Groups

Public Works’ employee affinity groups are champions of the diverse groups they represent and they work hard to increase awareness and appreciation of differences; promote cross-cultural learning; and enhance team spirit and unity. Our employee affinity groups conduct outreach activities in the community, offer scholarships, and create a safe environment for employees to explore their ethnic heritage, network, and share their culture with the rest of the DPW family. Membership in Employee Affinity groups is open to all employees.

The Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects, California (AAAEA-CA)
AAAEA-CA is dedicated to help its members succeed and advance their professions by networking and interacting with each other through technical, educational, and social activities and events. Among many activities the association undertakes every year, the Flagship project provides scholarships to youth who decide to pursue a career in engineering, architecture or information technology fields.

African American Engineers and Professional Employees Association (AAEPEA)
The Association's primary goals include supporting the career advancement of members; working with senior management to improve dialogue that helps to promote positive changes for all employees; enriching the lives of the community by supporting youth programs and projects that foster within them a greater interest in math and science as well as other professional fields; and to provide members with a vital forum for networking and support.

Public Works Armenian-American Employees Committee
The Public Works Armenian-American Employees Committee (PWAAEC) was established in 2010 and developed into an official affinity group at Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (LACDPW) in 2013. The PWAAEC’s mission is to create awareness and appreciation of the Armenian cultural traditions and ethnic heritage through annual celebrations.

Public Works Latino Heritage Group
The Latino Heritage Group introduces Public Works employees to the diversity of Latin Cultures and coordinates the annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration every fall.

Filipino-American Public Works Employees Association (FAPWEA)
FAPWEA's goal is to nurture camaraderie amongst the Filipino American employees at Public Works and to promote the Filipino Culture. FAPWEA was established and has been active since 1983 and has 110 members. FAPWEA coordinates several events each year such as a Golf Tournament Fundraiser, the FAPWEA summer picnic, the Filipino Cultural Heritage Month celebration in October, the FAPWEA Christmas party, and disaster relief fundraisers.

The Black History Committee (BHC)
The Black History Committee strives to promote education, imagination, and harmony through diversity. The Committee was formed in 2004 and consists of 16 active members. The BHC commemorates various holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. day, Juneteenth, Kwanzaa in December during the “Holidays Around the World” celebration, and Black History Month in February.

Public Works Iranian-American Committee
The mission of Public Works Iranian-American Committee is to educate all employees on the positive aspects of the 5000-year-old Iranian culture, celebrate Iranian traditions, and highlight Iranian-American contributions to society. The committees’ main event is sponsoring the annual celebration of the Iranian New Year, Nowruz.

South East Asian Cultural Committee
Public Works’ South East Asian Cultural Committee is dedicated to promoting and sharing the cultures of the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia by showcasing their history, arts, music, and culture through various events, programs, and outreach.
