Centerpoint Energy Invests in RNG Made from Minnesota Food Waste
CenterPoint Energy has signed an agreement with Minnesota-based Dem-Con HZI Bioenergy LLC (DCHZI) to purchase pipeline-quality renewable natural gas (RNG) created from food waste produced in Minnesota's Twin Cities metropolitan area. DCHZI's facility is expected to be in service in 2027 and will use anaerobic digestion to create RNG and will also use a gasification process to create biochar. Annually, the facility is expected to process 75,000 tons of organic waste, producing enough RNG to fuel 2,500 Minnesota homes. For more information, click here.

The facility is on track to begin operating in 2027. Convertus says its plant will be the first biofuel plant in Canada to incorporate integrated CO2 liquefaction technology, noting the facility will be able to process up to 200,000 tons of organic waste annually. At capacity, the plant could generate between 350,000 to 400,000 gigajoules of RNG per year which will be injected directly into the local gas grid. For more information, click here.
